College: University of Iowa
Experience: 4 years in coaching
Currently: University of Iowa, Offensive Line
LWFA is excited to have Brian Ferentz return for his 2nd summer. Coach Ferentz is a young and passionate coach whose knowledge of the game stretches beyond his years of experience. After a successful stint in the NFL, Ferentz rejoins the Iowa Football Program in his 1st season as the Offensive Line coach. During his time as the Tight Ends coach with the New England Patriots, Ferentz played an important role in the on-field success of his two pupils, Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez, while also helping guide the Patriots to an appearance in Super Bowl XLVI. Under his direction, Rob Gronkowski set three NFL records during the 2011 season: receiving touchdowns by a tight end in a single season (17), total touchdowns by a tight end in a single season (18) and receiving yards by a tight end in a single season (1,327). The pass catching duo of Hernandez and Gronkowski would also go on to set three NFL records during the 2011 NFL season: total touchdowns by a tight end tandem in a single season (24), receptions by a tight end tandem in a single season (169) and total yards by a tight end tandem in a single season (2,237). As a player, Brian spent two seasons in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons after signing a free agent contract with the Falcons in 2006. While at Iowa, Ferentz was a 3-year starter for the Hawkeyes. As a senior, he received the Hayden Fry “Extra Heartbeat” award and served as a team captain.
